As part of the systematic work to reduce shadow employment, 1,515 residents of Nizhny Novgorod signed employment contracts, 892 people became individual entrepreneurs, 306 registered as self-employed, and 6 people formalized civil contracts. In 2024, an interdepartmental commission to combat gray employment schemes began operating in the region. The commission is overseen by Deputy Governor Yegor Polyakov. The actions aim to protect the rights and interests of citizens. Official employment guarantees paid sick leave and vacations, pensions, and legal protection. The highest number of cases of shadow employment was recorded in the construction sector, retail trade, catering, cleaning, and services. This is due to high staff turnover. Since the commission's inception, over 24,000 people with signs of "gray" employment have been identified. Of these, 12,800 citizens have been officially employed, reports the Nizhny Novgorod regional government.
