Gorodets celebrated its 874th anniversary.

      Today, July 18, Gorodets in the Nizhny Novgorod region celebrated its 874th anniversary, the official inclusion in the "Golden Ring" route, and the 90th anniversary of the "Gorodets Painting" factory. The festival "Masters of the Golden Ring" also started in Gorodets. On the central streets of the city, there was a market featuring folk art products from all over Russia, Gorodets gingerbread, cheeses, kalach bread, and other edible products from local factories. Outdoor exhibitions were also organized for the festival guests: a photo exhibition of old photographs showcasing the history of Gorodets dynasties and an exhibition of paintings by contemporary artists. The hosts of the festival on the main stage, located on the Gorodets embankment, were TV stars from Channel One's travel show "Let's Go!" Maria Osadnik and Evgeny Pokrovsky. The city was congratulated on the holiday by the head of the city Alexander Mudrov, the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Nizhny Novgorod region Evgeny Lyulin, the minister of tourism and crafts of the region Sergey Yakovlev, State Duma deputy Artem Kavinov, and regional deputies Vladimir Bespalov and Alexander Timofeev. After the ceremonial part of the celebration, Nizhny Novgorod politicians took a stroll along the embankment, examining the products of the artisans and inquiring about the needs and wishes of representatives of Nizhny Novgorod crafts. Evgeny Lyulin was particularly interested in knives with handles made from mammoth bone, while Alexander Mudrov tried his hand at being a blacksmith. The mayor of Gorodets thanked the regional ministry of tourism for its comprehensive assistance in developing the tourist infrastructure and Gorodets crafts, as well as for its significant contribution to organizing the festival and City Day. Throughout the day, creative teams performed for the townspeople and festival guests. The stage also featured "Mrs. Universe-2026," Nizhny Novgorod resident Irina Glushchenkova. The first day of the festival concluded with a concert by Mitya Fomin.

      Gorodets was founded in 1152 by Prince Yuri Dolgoruky, and in 1263, Alexander Nevsky died at the local Feodorovsky Monastery. Today, the city has 43 museum spaces, and the annual tourist flow approaches one million people. Gorodets is also a modern industrial center: it produces a quarter of all Russian cheeses with mold, and based on last year's results, the district ranked first in the regional rating for entrepreneurship development. Under the "You Decide!" program, 14 landscaping projects were implemented in 2025, totaling over 70 million rubles.
