The case of fraud in the construction of a house in Nizhny Novgorod has gone to court.

      July 14, 2026 17:00 Incidents The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region denied information about police inaction in the investigation of a fraud case related to the construction of an individual residential house. As reported by the agency, on July 13, one of the regional media outlets released a story claiming that a criminal case was initiated only after the death of the main suspect, which allegedly deprived the victim of the opportunity to recover the damages incurred. The police stated that this information is not true. Investigators from the department for investigating crimes in the Avtozavodsky District of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Nizhny Novgorod completed the investigation of the criminal case initiated under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Fraud"). According to the investigation, the victim entered into a contract with a construction organization for the construction of an individual house on a plot of land in the Dalenekonstantinovsky District. However, the obligations under the contract were not fulfilled within the established timeframe. The damage amounted to 3.7 million rubles. During the investigation, police officers identified two individuals involved. Criminal prosecution against one of them was terminated due to death. The director of the construction organization has been charged, and a preventive measure in the form of a written undertaking not to leave has been imposed on him. To ensure compensation for damages, investigators have seized the apartment and car of the accused, with a total value of over 10 million rubles. According to the police, the value of the seized property exceeds the amount of damages incurred by the victim. The criminal case is currently under consideration by the Avtozavodsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod.
