The stocking is being carried out as part of activities for the artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources, the regional Ministry of Forestry reported. According to the Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Roman Vorobyov, the stocking is necessary for the restoration and increase of the natural fish population. In addition, it contributes to the cleaning of water bodies, improves their ecological condition, and creates conditions for the sustainable development of commercial and recreational fishing. As the minister noted, within the framework of the program, more than 660,000 fish have already been released into the region's water bodies. In particular, over 4,000 sturgeon fry and 635,000 pike larvae were sent to the Cheboksary Reservoir, 1,000 silver carp fry to the Oka River, and more than 20,000 sturgeon fry to the Gorky Reservoir. The stocking activities are carried out in accordance with the Rules for the Organization of Artificial Reproduction and the plan approved by the Federal Agency for Fisheries. Their implementation is monitored by employees of the State Control, Supervision, and Protection of Aquatic Biological Resources Department for the Nizhny Novgorod region of the Moscow-Oka Territorial Administration of Rosrybolovstvo. The ministry also reminded that enterprises whose activities harm aquatic biological resources are required to compensate for the damage in kind. Organizations that fail to fulfill their obligations to release fish into water bodies will face measures provided for by law. According to the Nizhny Novgorod Fish Protection Department, since the beginning of 2026, as part of compensatory measures, including from the own funds of economic entities, more than 1 million fry and fish larvae have already been released into water bodies.
