The overhaul of two bridges on the R-177 in the Nizhny Novgorod region will be completed in 2026.

      On July 15, 2026, at 18:15, Society reported that the major repairs of the bridges over the Lyundu and Zimara rivers on the federal highway R-177 "Povetluzhye" in the Nizhny Novgorod region are planned to be completed in 2026. Their readiness is currently estimated at 75% and 25%, respectively, according to the Federal State Institution "Volga-Vyatka Road Administration."

      According to them, instead of the old structures, new crossings with greater capacity and load-bearing capability are being built. The bridge over the Lyundu in the village of Bokovaya in the Semenovsky district was built about 60 years ago and no longer meets regulatory requirements due to significant wear of the structures.

      "Last year, the bridge builders completely dismantled the crossing, and nearby, they erected a temporary two-lane road with a water-passing pipe, which allowed for uninterrupted traffic during the work period," reported the Federal State Institution "Volga-Vyatka Road Administration."

      In the spring of 2026, active construction of the new bridge began. A metal corrugated arch structure was installed in the riverbed to allow water passage, with the exits reinforced with gabions. A lower layer of road pavement has been arranged above it. Next, two layers of crushed stone-mastic asphalt concrete will be laid, lighting will be installed, water drainage with local treatment facilities will be arranged, a pedestrian zone will be created, and barrier and railing fences will be installed, along with the reinforcement of the riverbed.

      After the work is completed, the length of the bridge will be 13 meters, and the width will increase from 9.7 to 17.2 meters. The structure will be able to accommodate vehicles weighing more than 80 tons with a load on the axle of up to 20 tons.

      The major repairs of the bridge over the Zimara in the Voskresensky municipal district are being carried out in stages, with traffic operating in a reversible mode. The old structures on the left side have already been dismantled, a monolithic foundation has been prepared, and a reinforced concrete two-point water-passing pipe with waterproofing has been installed. Next, road pavement and a new surface will be arranged here, after which work will move to the right side.

      As a result of the repairs, the length of the structure will be almost 22 meters, and the width of the roadway will increase to nine meters. The bridge will be designed for a constant load, including from heavy vehicles weighing up to 80 tons.

      During the repair period, the roadway on sections of the roads is narrowed, and a speed limit of 30-40 km/h is in effect. Drivers are asked to comply with the requirements of temporary signs and reduce speed when approaching the work zone.
