About 600 thousand residents of Nizhny Novgorod have undergone health check-ups since the beginning of the year.
On July 15, 2026, at 16:51 Society In the first half of 2026, nearly 600,000 residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region underwent medical check-ups and preventive medical examinations. According to the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region, this figure represents 43.7% of the planned value and demonstrates a sustained interest among residents in the opportunities for timely assessment of their health status. Regular participation in preventive measures remains one of the key areas of work for the healthcare system. The main task of medical check-ups is not only to identify existing diseases but also to determine risk factors for their development, so that timely measures can be taken to preserve health and improve quality of life. Natalia Savitskaya, the chief freelance specialist in medical prevention at the Ministry of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention, noted that modern approaches to organizing medical check-ups make prevention more effective and personalized. "Today, medical check-ups are not just a set of medical tests. They provide a comprehensive assessment of a person's health, helping to identify potential risks even before pronounced symptoms of disease appear. The earlier a problem is identified, the more opportunities there are for effective treatment and maintaining active longevity," said Natalia Savitskaya. During the first stage of medical check-ups, specialists conduct necessary examinations aimed at identifying signs of chronic non-communicable diseases, including circulatory system diseases, oncological diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory and digestive diseases. Key risk factors that may negatively affect a person's health are also assessed. In the first six months of 2026, after undergoing medical check-ups, 275,000 residents of the region were referred for the second stage of examination. As a result, specialists identified more than 11,000 cases of circulatory system diseases and 2,000 cases of diabetes, about 2,000 cases of digestive organ diseases, and approximately 1,700 cases of respiratory organ diseases. Additionally, more than a thousand residents of Nizhny Novgorod were diagnosed with oncological diseases for the first time. "It is especially important that within the framework of medical check-ups, doctors work not only with already established diseases but also with the causes that may lead to their development. High blood pressure, elevated cholesterol and glucose levels, insufficient physical activity, smoking, and excess body weight are factors that individuals can influence with the support of specialists," emphasized Natalia Savitskaya. The region is also continuing to conduct in-depth medical check-ups and reproductive health assessment activities. In the first half of 2026, more than 100,000 residents of the region underwent in-depth medical check-ups, and nearly 200,000 people participated in reproductive health screenings. "Maintaining reproductive health is an important part of preventive work. Examinations allow for the timely identification of diseases and conditions that may affect the ability to have children, and if necessary, treatment and monitoring by specialists can be prescribed," explained the chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for Public Health and Medical Prevention. Preventive measures in the Nizhny Novgorod region are carried out as part of the national project "Long and Active Life." Currently, residents can undergo medical check-ups, including in-depth ones, as well as reproductive health screenings at 82 medical organizations in the region. To undergo medical check-ups, residents can contact the preventive medicine department or office of their local clinic, as well as utilize the services of the Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services. Employed citizens are provided with a paid day off to undergo medical check-ups. Additionally, in agreement with medical organizations, preventive measures can be conducted at enterprises and educational institutions using mobile forms of work. It is recommended that citizens aged 18 to 39 undergo preventive medical examinations annually, and medical check-ups every three years. For residents over 40, medical check-ups are conducted annually. Appointments for medical check-ups can be made in person at the clinic's registration desk, through the clinic's call center, via the unified regional information service at "122," through the regional Patient Portal (https://mis.mznn.ru), under the "Medical Check-ups" section, as well as through the Unified Portal of State and Municipal Services (http://www.gosuslugi.ru). In agreement with the employer, employees are given a day off work to undergo medical check-ups. Patients can also undergo examinations in the evenings on weekdays or on Saturdays. Starting in 2024, in agreement with medical organizations, mobile teams may conduct preventive examinations and medical check-ups directly in workplaces or educational institutions. The national project "Long and Active Life" has been implemented in the country since 2025 at the instruction of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It addresses tasks previously outlined in the national project "Healthcare." The new national project aims to increase life expectancy by 2030 and involves further modernization of clinics, outpatient clinics, and midwifery stations, attracting more qualified medical personnel to healthcare institutions, applying new approaches in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic diseases, improving emergency medical care and rehabilitation systems, developing a network of national research centers, and digitizing the industry.
