Nizhny Novgorod families will have to save for an apartment for more than five years.

This is evidenced by the results of a study by RIA Novosti, which assesses the potential opportunities for families to purchase an apartment using their own funds. As the main indicator, analysts used the minimum time required for a family with one child and a median salary in the region to save for a 60 square meter apartment without taking out loans. The calculations were made based on prices as of May 2026. Thus, a Nizhny Novgorod family will need at least 5.1 years to gather the necessary amount to purchase housing. A year earlier, this figure was 4.8 years. The average cost of a 60 square meter apartment in the region reached 7 million rubles. Overall, across the country, the price per square meter in the secondary market increased by an average of 9.3% over the year. Price increases were recorded in 83 regions, while declines were noted in only two. The leaders of the rating were the Murmansk region and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. There, a family with one child needs at least 2.1 years to save for an apartment. The average cost of housing is 4.9 million and 5.8 million rubles, respectively.
