The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul

      An apostle is a messenger, a witness, and the entire life of Christ's disciples was devoted to witnessing about Christ. The Savior demanded that they go even to the ends of the earth (see Acts 1:8). And the apostles, constantly strengthened by the grace of the Holy Spirit, turned thousands of people to Christ, silenced the mouths of the wise men of the world at that time, and captivated human hearts with their preaching and their lives.

      The apostle Paul, speaking of his life, reports that he was beaten with rods five times, receiving nearly two hundred blows, was beaten with sticks three times, was stoned once, in an attempt to kill him. His journeys were fraught with trials, storms, attacks from robbers, from authorities, and even from false brothers (see 2 Cor. 11:21; 12:9).
