       Six people drowned in the Nizhny Novgorod region over the past day. In connection with this, Nizhny Novgorod residents are reminded of the rules for rescuing drowning people - the methods are published by the Telegram channel "Bokal presseka."

       Often, panic sets in when seeing a drowning person. According to statistics, attempts to rescue a drowning person result in the death of the rescuer in up to 30% of cases.

       Jumping into the water is the first thought that comes to mind when seeing a drowning person. In reality, this is a great misconception and a dangerous step. The international rescue protocols ILCOR recommend the concept of "Voice, Throw, Reach." First, loudly and clearly shout the sequence of actions to the drowning person. Use short sentences, for example, "Turn on your back!" Do not succumb to panic; remember: it overwhelms the drowning person even more. Second, find makeshift rescue devices. For example, an empty five-liter bottle. It is important to throw it not at the person but in front of them. Finally, you need to "extend" your arms. A stick, scarf, or belt will work – anything that can serve as a kind of rope between you and the victim. Do not stand at the edge of a slippery surface when pulling the person. In this case, the risk of losing your balance and ending up next to the drowning person increases. The rescuer should lie on their stomach, spread their legs wide, and extend the rescue object. However, there are situations when these methods are not suitable. If there is nothing left but to enter the water – follow the next rule. Swim up to the drowning person from behind, grab them under the armpits or by the hair, and place their head on your chest. Swim to the shore on your back, using your legs to help.
