The Nizhny Novgorod Forestry Ministry is checking the equipment of fire-fighting stations.

On July 10, 2026, at 14:39, Society In the Nizhny Novgorod region, comprehensive inspections of forest fire stations are being conducted. Specialists from the regional Ministry of Forestry are checking the condition of equipment, tools, and inventory, as well as the level of training of personnel and the staffing of units. "Currently, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, a high fire hazard class has been partially established in several municipal districts. Considering this and the upcoming hot weather, the ministry is taking measures to enhance monitoring of the situation through a video monitoring system, as well as increasing the number of patrols in the forests. All firefighting forces and resources are on full alert. I would like to draw the attention of residents and guests of the region to the necessity of strict adherence to fire safety rules, as preventing emergencies is much more effective than dealing with the consequences," said Roman Vorobyov, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region. The department noted that employees of the relevant ministry department are checking the organization of duty schedules and the operation of dispatch services at forest fire stations, the readiness of personnel, the functionality of communication and equipment, remote and ground monitoring of forest fires, conducting safety briefings, and maintaining the necessary documentation at forest fire stations. The main goal of the inspections is to improve the responsiveness to forest fires and the readiness of territorial units of the Ministry of Forestry. Since the beginning of the fire hazard season this year, five forest fires have been recorded in the forest fund lands of the Nizhny Novgorod region—in the Bor, Balakhna, and Varnavinsky forestry districts. The causes of their occurrence were careless handling of fire by humans and dry thunderstorms. The Ministry of Forestry of the Nizhny Novgorod region reminded that a special fire safety regime continues to operate in the region, under which the following are prohibited: — visiting forests by citizens when the fire hazard class reaches IV-V due to weather conditions; — conducting agricultural burns, lighting bonfires, burning solid municipal waste, garbage, grass burning, as well as carrying out other fire hazardous works; — using facilities for cooking food over coals. The regional Ministry of Forestry updates the fire hazard map daily on its website, marking areas where forest visits are prohibited. Under the special fire safety regime, the fine for citizens for violations can reach 50,000 rubles, for officials—up to 90,000 rubles, for legal entities—up to 1 million rubles, not counting the obligation to pay for damage that may be caused to the forest fund. Criminal liability is also provided for the destruction or damage of forest plantations, including due to careless handling of fire (under Article 261 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In case of discovering a forest fire, it is necessary to immediately report it by calling the direct line of forest protection: 8 (800) 100-94-00, the regional dispatch service of forestry: 8 (831) 430-01-23. Calls are accepted around the clock. Preserving forests from fires is one of the most important areas of the national project "Ecological Well-Being." The main goal of the national project is to preserve and increase the forest wealth of the country to create a comfortable and safe environment, as well as to support the economic potential of the forest complex.
