Metal separators will be installed on some Nizhny Novgorod roads.

      On July 9, 2026, 13:16 Society Approximately 11 kilometers of axial metal barrier fencing to separate traffic flows will be installed in 2026 on roads in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was announced at a press conference at the NIOC, dedicated to the launch of a social campaign for safety at intersections, by a representative of the regional Ministry of Transport, Kirill Shevyakov, as reported by a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod." According to him, the greatest severity of the consequences of traffic accidents is associated with crossing into oncoming traffic. To reduce the number of such accidents, barriers will be installed. They will be mounted on sections of the backbone network with high traffic intensity, where overtaking is prohibited. Among such routes are the roads from Rabotki to Poretskoye, Nizhny Novgorod to Shakhunya to Kirov, and Shopsha to Ivanovo to Nizhny Novgorod. In places where the installation of barriers is not possible according to regulations, signal posts will be installed for visual separation of flows. As part of the road safety improvement program, the agency has planned a set of infrastructure measures. In the region, about 7,000 kilometers of road markings will be applied, of which 5,500 kilometers will be painted and 1,650 kilometers will be thermoplastic. Structural markings are also applied on the backbone network, which additionally warns drivers when crossing the dividing line. Special attention will be paid to pedestrian infrastructure. It is planned to equip 111 crossings, of which 86 will be equipped with projected horizontal markings duplicating the "zebra" at night. In addition, in 2026, five new traffic light objects will be installed and another eight will be designed. The construction of 90 kilometers of outdoor lighting lines and the design of another 270 kilometers are planned. About 7,000 road signs will also be installed, including G-shaped supports with duplicate indicators, T7 type traffic lights at pedestrian crossings, and LED signs in hazardous areas. Additionally, around 200 bus stop pavilions will be replaced and installed in the region. As Kirill Shevyakov emphasized, all measures are aimed at reducing accidents and increasing the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and public transport passengers. Each case of a traffic accident with fatalities is analyzed together with the State Traffic Inspectorate, after which additional measures are developed to prevent similar incidents.
