More than a thousand illegal migrants have been expelled from the Nizhny Novgorod region in six months.

July 9, 2026 13:33 Incidents In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 1,035 foreign citizens were sent beyond the borders of Russia in the first six months of 2026. As reported by the press service of the Federal Bailiff Service of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region, bailiffs accompanied them to the checkpoints at the state border. All those deported lacked documents that would allow them to legally stay and work in the country. Just last week, bailiffs sent 22 people home. Among them were citizens of Uzbekistan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan. Decisions on deportation were made by the courts under part 1 of Article 18.8 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation "Violation by a foreign citizen or a stateless person of the rules of entry into the Russian Federation or the regime of stay (residence) in the Russian Federation." Now, entry into Russia for these citizens will be closed for five years. It was previously reported that the State Duma tightened the requirements for migrants. Now, from the age of 18, their children are required to obtain a work patent or leave the country, and the migrants themselves must provide for their family at least at the subsistence level, otherwise they face deportation.
