In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 18 zones for UAV flights have been designated.

      In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 18 special zones have been created for conducting training and practice flights of unmanned aerial vehicles. The sites are located in Nizhny Novgorod, Bor, Vyksa, Pavlovo, Knyaginino, Vorotynets, the workers' settlement of Bolshoye Kozino, as well as in the Kstovsky and Balakhnin municipal districts. The order of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation No. 106 came into effect on July 4, 2026. Governor Gleb Nikitin noted that unmanned aviation systems are one of the most promising and rapidly developing industries. According to him, the creation of specialized zones expands opportunities for training schoolchildren, students, teachers, and participants of specialized clubs, as well as allows residents of the region to familiarize themselves with modern UAV technologies. Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region Yegor Polyakov emphasized that flights of drones are permitted within the designated zones in specially established airspace. The decision is aimed at developing unmanned aviation in the region and training specialists in the industry. For each zone, the boundaries of the airspace, permissible altitude, and operating mode have been defined. Depending on the site, the maximum flight altitude ranges from 50 to 150 meters, and the radius of the territory reaches one kilometer. Flights are conducted at the designated times for each zone. In these areas, unmanned aerial vehicles with a maximum takeoff weight of up to 30 kg can be launched without obtaining permission to use the airspace and without submitting a flight plan, which simplifies the conduct of practical classes and training. The development of UAVs in the country is being carried out as part of the national project "Unmanned Aerial Systems," developed on the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. Its implementation is aimed at creating conditions for the production of various types of aircraft and expanding their application in the economy.
