The number of murders in the Nizhny Novgorod region has decreased by almost 15%.

      On July 3, 2026, at 16:05, incidents reported 34 cases of rape and 69 murders registered in the Nizhny Novgorod region from January to May 2026. In the same period last year, 33 and 81 similar crimes were recorded, respectively. The data was published by the regional Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

      In total, 14,483 crimes were recorded in the region over five months, which is 18.4% less than the previous year. The number of crimes against the person also decreased by 6.6% — from 1,647 in January to May last year to 1,539 in the same period in 2026.

      In turn, the number of murders decreased by almost 15%: 69 such crimes were registered in the first five months compared to 81 a year earlier.

      Additionally, 95 cases of causing serious harm to health were recorded. According to statistics, this is 24.6% less than in the same period of 2025. The number of cases of causing minor harm to health decreased by 32.2% — from 227 to 154.

      Furthermore, law enforcement registered 21 cases of battery. In January to May 2025, 20 similar crimes were identified.
