The entrance stele of Nizhny Novgorod has been proposed to be relocated for the sake of an investment project.

      On June 30, 2026, at 16:38, Economy The company "Volgaspetsstroy" proposed to relocate the entrance stele with the inscription "Nizhny Novgorod" on the M-7 highway. As reported by "Kommersant-Privolzhye," applications for the provision of five land plots were reviewed at a meeting of the land council under the regional ministry of property. According to the publication, the company belongs to regional assembly deputy Anton Ananyin. The investor hopes to obtain plots near the "Lemana Pro" store with a total area of 23.6 thousand square meters. Two access roads costing 16.5 million rubles, a warehouse complex for 307 million rubles, and a hotel for 43 million rubles are planned to be built here. Previously, the issue regarding three of these plots had already been discussed, but it was postponed due to the location of the stele. The investor was asked to develop a concept for its relocation. At the meeting, it became known that such a project had been prepared and approved by the architectural council. However, representatives of the city administration opposed changing the location of the historical landmark, emphasizing that the stele should remain clearly visible from the highway. Sergey Korinov, deputy director of the city department of urban development, stated that the removal of the object is impossible. The chief architect of the region, Sergey Popov, noted that if the relocation is refused, the implementation of the project loses its meaning. Due to disagreements, the consideration of the initiative was postponed to a meeting of the regional urban planning headquarters.
