The Nizhny Novgorod delegation studied the practices of Jiangxi Province in the People's Republic of China in the field of health.
On June 30, 2026, at 17:30, Society. A delegation from the Nizhny Novgorod region, headed by Deputy Governor Andrey Checherin, was on a working visit to Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, People's Republic of China, last week. The main goal of the trip to the partner region, with which Nizhny Novgorod has been cooperating for about three years, was to study best practices in healthcare in Jiangxi. The parties already have experience in joint work providing medical assistance to children. This and other areas of cooperation in the field of medicine have many prospects for development.
The delegation included the Minister of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Galina Mikhailova, the director of the Medical Information and Analytical Center, Tatyana Antokhova, as well as specialists from two medical institutions included in the flagship regional project for the comprehensive development of hospital territories "Health Quarter": the chief physician of the Research Institute - Specialized Clinical Cardiac Surgery Hospital named after Academician B.A. Korolev, Anton Maximov, the chief physician of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, Svetlana Belozerova, and heads of departments at the NODKB, Elena Timofeeva, Ekaterina Novopoltseva, and Ekaterina Karpovich.
The organization of the visit and the formation of its program were carried out with the support of the Ministry of International and Interregional Relations of the region.
Nizhny Novgorod residents participated in scientific conferences on pediatrics, childhood immunization, and medical technologies. In addition, the delegates visited leading clinics in Nanchang - the Medical Center for Women and Children of Jiangxi Province at the Jiulonghu campus, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University in Hongjiao Zhou, and the Honggutang Provincial Medical Center for Women and Children. Special attention was paid to studying the practices of traditional Chinese medicine - for this purpose, the delegation visited the Cihuang National Medical Center and Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
"The beginning of cooperation between our regions in healthcare was laid by contacts between the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital and the Children's Hospital of Jiangxi Province. Over the past two years, medical professionals have regularly held joint seminars, exchanged interesting clinical experiences, and jointly analyzed the most complex cases in the format of telemedicine consultations. In this context, the story of a Chinese girl named Xinxin, suffering from systemic scleroderma, is indicative: the chief freelance pediatric allergist-immunologist of our Ministry of Health, Elena Timofeeva, shared her expert opinion on this case with foreign colleagues, and the child's treatment was adjusted. On this trip, we learned that the girl's condition has significantly improved - now she can go to school and live a normal life. And this is just one of many examples of how the unification of efforts leads to success and real saving of lives," said Andrey Checherin.
According to the deputy head of the region, during the visit, the delegation highly appreciated the organization of medical assistance to the residents of Jiangxi in hospital conditions. Chinese colleagues actively use artificial intelligence technologies, have the most modern high-tech equipment at their disposal, and surgeons are skilled in many minimally invasive techniques. It is noteworthy that the provincial authorities are also developing a cluster approach in healthcare. Local hospitals are large medical complexes where a whole range of various types of high-tech medical assistance is concentrated in one area. Thanks to national projects "Long and Active Life" and "Family," in the Nizhny Novgorod region, not only the "Health Quarter" project is being implemented according to this principle, but also the "City of Health" and "Family Quarter" projects.
The Minister of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Galina Mikhailova, spoke about the prospects for applying the studied experience in Nizhny Novgorod. "We see the effectiveness of the telemedicine consultation format, so starting from September this year, medical professionals from our regions will communicate monthly. It is important to understand that the joint analysis of complex clinical cases and the management of such patients is also a field for the development of medical science, in which we are also extremely interested. Of course, we hope to expand cooperation in providing assistance not only to children but also to adults. In this regard, the introduction of the best practices of traditional Chinese medicine into the rehabilitation process of patients - therapeutic breathing exercises, herbal medicine, massages, acupuncture - is particularly promising," said Galina Mikhailova.
The Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the region, Olga Guseva, added that the Jiangxi province delegation intends to make a reciprocal visit to the Nizhny Novgorod region. This is an opportunity not only to practically transfer their knowledge to doctors but also to adopt the advanced experience of the region. "The visit to Jiangxi Province is an important contribution to strengthening the strategic partnership of the region with the PRC, especially within the framework of the 'Volga - Yangtze' format. Jiangxi has been one of the key partners among the six Chinese regions for many years, and the cooperation agreement signed in November 2023 facilitates effective experience exchange, including in healthcare," summarized Olga Guseva.
Let us remind you that the implementation of national projects "Long and Active Life" and "Family" in the region aims to improve the accessibility and quality of medical assistance for Nizhny Novgorod residents.
