June 28, 2026 17:52 Incidents In the first five months of 2026, 145 traffic accidents with casualties were registered in the Nizhny Novgorod region, caused by vehicles entering the oncoming lane. This statistic was provided by the regional State Traffic Inspectorate. A total of 23 people died in these accidents, and another 250 sustained injuries of varying severity. In 69 cases, the entry into the oncoming lane occurred in places where such maneuvers are prohibited. As a result of these accidents, 15 people died, and 116 were injured. It is noted that driving in the oncoming lane remains one of the most common causes of accidents with severe consequences. Such violations pose particular danger on rural roads, where the permitted speed is higher, and head-on collisions often lead to the most serious injuries for drivers and passengers. Earlier, we reported that a drunk 16-year-old driver caused an accident with a "rollover" in the Nizhny Novgorod region. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
