Among these people are twelve employees of the internal affairs agencies who were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. "Three days ago, it was exactly eighty-five years since the beginning of the Great Patriotic War — the one that became the most severe test for our people, a test of the strength of every city, every family, every person. Eighty-five years is no small amount of time, but the memory of those events does not fade. It lives in our hearts, in family archives, in the stories of veterans, in the names of streets and places of historical memory. And today here, at the Alley of Memory, we are not just paying tribute to the past — we are passing this memory on to those who are just beginning their journey," emphasized Police Lieutenant General Yuri Arsentyev. As part of the ceremony, the head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region announced a moment of silence in memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War. He expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to the creation of the Alley of Memory and presented letters of appreciation to the head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" Maria Samodelkina, the executive director of the regional branch of "Volunteers of Victory" Elvira Churashova, and the deputy head of the leadership and social projects center of the youth center "KUPNO.START" Alexandra Margaryan. "We are the heirs of the great Victory, and this obliges us to be worthy continuators of the traditions of courage, bravery, and love for the Motherland. The solemn atmosphere was complemented by performances from employees of the Cultural Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region and invited artists, who performed patriotic songs for the guests. Cutting the symbolic ribbon, Yuri Arsentyev, Vladimir Shcherbakov, Vadim Grebenshchikov, Maria Samodelkina, and Yulia Garevskaya opened the Alley of Memory and, together with other participants of the event, studied the information presented on the stands.
