An 18-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod is accused of embezzling nearly 3.9 million rubles.

      In the Knyagininsky district, the investigation into the criminal case against an 18-year-old resident of the Nizhny Novgorod region has been completed. The young man is accused of two episodes of fraud under the "courier" scheme, the regional police department reported.

      According to the investigation, in January 2026, the accused began messaging an unknown person in a messenger app. The person offered him to collect money from citizens and hand it over to people engaged in currency and cryptocurrency exchange.

      In the same month, the young man went to a resident of Knyaginino and received a package containing 900,010 rubles from her. Law enforcement believes that the criminals obtained this money through deception.

      The second episode occurred in February in Nizhny Novgorod. According to the investigation, the accused took 22,000 euros and 12,605 dollars from a previously unknown man. The damage at the exchange rate at the time of the crime amounted to 2,994,906 rubles.

      After the arrest, the police seized foreign currency from the suspect. During the investigation, he partially compensated for the damage caused, and some of the seized property was handed over to one of the victims for safekeeping.

      The young man has been charged with two episodes of large-scale fraud. The case with the approved indictment has been sent to the prosecutor of the Knyagininsky district for a decision on referral to court.

      The investigation against the alleged organizer of the scheme continues in a separate proceeding.
