Fraudsters stole nearly 35 million rubles from Nizhny Novgorod residents in a week.

June 25, 2026 07:00 Incidents In just one week, residents of Nizhny Novgorod lost nearly 35 million rubles to scammers. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the region. A total of 46 crimes involving various fraud schemes have been registered in the area. Most often, the perpetrators acted under the pretext of online purchases - 14 such cases were recorded. Another 10 episodes were related to offers of additional income, and 7 involved calls from fake bank security employees. Other scenarios were also used. One of the victims was a 51-year-old resident of the working settlement of Sosnovskoye. He found an advertisement online for the sale of a quadcopter and, during the correspondence, transferred a prepayment of 145,000 rubles to the seller. After receiving the money, the interlocutor stopped responding, and the man turned to the police. A 32-year-old self-employed woman from Nizhny Novgorod believed strangers who introduced themselves as curators on an exchange. They offered her additional income through investments in financial markets. Following their instructions, the woman registered on a website, created a crypto wallet, and transferred over 7 million rubles. Of this amount, 1.8 million rubles were her personal savings, and 5.2 million rubles were borrowed funds. Another significant loss was incurred by a 63-year-old pensioner from Nizhny Novgorod. At the end of May 2026, she received a call from unknown individuals who introduced themselves as employees of the "Gosuslugi" portal, the Central Bank, and law enforcement agencies. The woman was informed about an alleged hacking of her account and an attempt to obtain a loan. Following the callers' instructions, she withdrew her savings and handed over 3.5 million rubles to couriers. After that, communication with the "curators" was cut off. It was previously reported that in the first five months of 2026, 2,344 cases of remote fraud and theft totaling 1.5 billion rubles were registered in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
