Nizhny Novgorod residents participated in the All-Russian action "Candle of Memory"

      June 23, 2026 16:42 Society On the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, dozens of commemorative events took place in the Nizhny Novgorod region, including the "Candle of Memory" action. Memory candles were lit on this day at eternal flames and in the squares of Nizhny Novgorod, Dzerzhinsk, Semyonov, Bor, Gorodets, and many other cities in the region. The action was organized by the regional branch of the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" with the support of the regional ministry of youth policy. "June 22 is a day that forever changed the fates of millions of people. We light candles not just as a symbol of mourning, but as a sign of our collective gratitude to the generation of Victors. We see how important it is for people, especially for the youth, to touch these events with their hearts. Each candle lit today is a promise to preserve this history and pass it on," shared Maria Samodelkina, head of the Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the "Volunteers of Victory." The "Candle of Memory" also took place in the region and across Russia in an online format. On the website daypamyati.rf, the "Candles of Memory" counter reached 830,000 on this day.
