The suspect in the criminal case of theft from a colleague's card gave birth in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On June 21, 2026, at 12:06, Society: A girl who was accused of theft after a mix-up with bank cards gave birth to a daughter in Nizhny Novgorod. This was reported on social media by the human rights commissioner in Russia, Yana Lantratova.

      Recall that the Nizhny Novgorod resident became a subject of a criminal case after accidentally paying at a pharmacy and a grocery store with her colleague's unnamed bank card. The damage of 11,000 rubles was compensated, the applicant has no claims, but the case has not been closed.

      The girl was unable to return from the capital to her hometown for a long time, including to use the paid services at the local maternity hospital. She submitted a petition four times requesting to temporarily lift the travel ban, but she was denied again and again.

      The easing of the preventive measure was achieved after the intervention of the ombudsman. Yana Lantratova appealed to the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, drawing the law enforcement's attention to the situation.

      We contacted the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia with a request to consider the circumstances of the case and make a decision based on the principles of humanism. We were heard. The preventive measure was changed. The girl was able to go home, - wrote the human rights commissioner in Russia.

      On June 16, the Nizhny Novgorod resident gave birth to a daughter named Vasilisa. Soon, the mother and her newborn daughter were discharged from the maternity hospital, and they reunited with their family.
