In the Kergensky Nature Reserve, the flowering of cranberries continues. This creates a feeling of a delicate pink haze over the hummocks, shared the reserve on social media. Due to the special structure of the petals, the English named cranberries "cranberry" – "Crane Berry." In translation, "crane" means crane, and "berry" means berry. The fact is that the petals of cranberry flowers are bent upwards, while the pistil and stamens are directed downwards, so the opened flowers resemble the head of a bird with a long beak.
It turned out that this summer, in one place, you can find representatives of several "generations" of cranberries. The plants in the swamps are currently at different stages of development – flowers, ovaries, the first formed green fruits, and last year's red berries. The latter have been well preserved due to the presence of a natural preservative – benzoic acid.
