Almost two-thirds of the residents of the Nizhny Novgorod region engage in sports.

The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Gleb Nikitin, presented the results of the development of the region's sports infrastructure at the Ministry of Sports of Russia. The outcomes of the meeting were reported by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Degtyarev.

According to Degtyarev, today almost two-thirds of the residents of the Nizhny Novgorod Region engage in sports. There are also 42 physical culture and health complexes operating in the region, located in small and remote municipalities. They are equipped with swimming pools, ice arenas, football fields, and universal sports halls.

The minister noted that in recent years, a number of large sports projects have been implemented in the region. Among them are the regional center for adaptive sports "Parus" in Dzerzhinsk, an athletics arena at the "Lokomotiv" stadium in Nizhny Novgorod, an indoor football arena in Bor, and the first specialized training center for boxers in Gorodets.

Special attention at the meeting was given to the construction of a new ice arena in Nizhny Novgorod, which will become the home ground for the hockey club "Torpedo." According to Gleb Nikitin, the readiness of the facility is 99%. Currently, commissioning works are being carried out at the arena, after which it will be checked by a commission from the Continental Hockey League.

The opening of the sports complex is scheduled for this year. The arena is designed for 12,000 spectators and includes three ice rinks.

In addition, the modernization of existing sports facilities continues in the region. In particular, the "Dynamo" stadium, one of the oldest sports facilities in Nizhny Novgorod, is undergoing reconstruction.

At the meeting, the governor also presented a catalog of investment sites for the construction of sports facilities. According to the proposed mechanism, investors will be able to lease land plots at a rate of one ruble per year for a period of ten years when implementing relevant projects.

As Mikhail Degtyarev noted, more than 1,300 physical culture and sports events are held annually in the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Among them are "Lyzhnya Rossii," "Cross of the Nation," the All-Russian Sports Games of Alexander Nevsky, and other mass competitions.

The minister also reported that in a month, the "Nizhny Novgorod" stadium will host a match (6+) for the Russian Super Cup in football between Moscow's "Spartak" and St. Petersburg's "Zenit." The parties also discussed preparations for the meeting during the working meeting.
