In the homeland of the green borscht festival, they shut down the mobile 4G internet.

      On June 17, 2026, at 14:17, MTS has upgraded the telecommunications infrastructure in the Koverninsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. Thanks to the launch of a new 4G base station, the average mobile internet speed in the village of Kovernino has increased by about a third.

      The Koverninsky District is known as the birthplace of Khokhloma painting and the venue for the festival "Good Green Cabbage Soup!" (6+), dedicated to the traditional dish made from fermented lower cabbage leaves. Every year, the district attracts thousands of tourists who come to experience the local cuisine, nature, and architecture.

      The company noted that the new LTE equipment provided stable 4G coverage not only in the center of Kovernino but also near popular attractions. These include the wooden suspension bridge over the Uzola River, the merchant Malyshev's house with carved window frames, the memorial site "Three Pines," and the museum-exhibition center "Otchina," which features a collection of Kovernin Khokhloma.

      "Stable and fast mobile internet is an essential tool for both the guests of the district, to navigate without problems, and for local entrepreneurs developing online sales of their farm products and souvenirs," said Andrey Belov, the director of the telecommunications company in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

      Recall that in May, additional LTE equipment was deployed in the urban district of Shakhunya. This allowed high-speed mobile internet to be provided to another 25 settlements in the region, including Malinovka, Polovina, Krasnogor, Skorodumovo, Bolshaya Svecha, and Malaya Beryozovka. Also, in 2026, the company upgraded equipment in several settlements of the Balakhna and Gorodets districts, including Kovrigino, Shadrino, Voronino, and the village of Sovkhoznoye.
