Olga Guseva: "Cooperation with SCO countries is the foundation of the region's economic stability."

June 15, 2026 18:12 Politics "For the Nizhny Novgorod region, cooperation with the SCO countries is not just an external economic priority, but the foundation of economic stability and technological sovereignty," noted the Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Olga Guseva. On June 15, 2026, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) celebrates its 25th anniversary. "Today we maintain direct ties with 17 partner regions: six regions in China and Uzbekistan, and five in the Republic of Belarus. Such close contacts contribute not only to the growth of industrial exports but also to deep humanitarian rapprochement," she emphasized. According to the minister, within the framework of cooperation, the Nizhny Novgorod region actively exports vehicles, electronics, chemical and pharmaceutical products, and imports agricultural goods and industrial equipment. A vivid example of successful exchange of experience and technologies is the annual participation of representatives from the IT sector of SCO countries in the "CIPR" conference. The minister paid special attention to successes in the educational sphere. "Today, more than 2,800 students from SCO member countries are studying at Nizhny Novgorod universities, which accounts for 40 percent of the total number of foreign students in the region. This confirms the high demand for Nizhny Novgorod education among citizens of SCO countries," noted Olga Guseva. An important area of interaction is also the field of ecology. Representatives of SCO countries actively participate in the International Ecological Telefestival "Territory of Tomorrow." This year, the event will take place in Nizhny Novgorod for the tenth time, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the SCO and issues of sustainable development. Strengthening the region's relations with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization countries is systematic in nature. In January 2026, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, approved a comprehensive program for cooperation with SCO countries for 2026-2028. The document is a continuation of the systematic work that began in 2023 when the region was the first in Russia to develop such a strategic plan for interaction with the organization. Work on developing ties with international partners is also being carried out within the framework of the national project "International Cooperation and Export," initiated by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. The national project aims to stimulate industrial and agricultural exports, as well as to implement systemic support measures for participants in foreign economic activity.
