Nizhny Novgorod region topped the anti-rating for escapes from accident scenes.

      On June 15, 2026, at 16:56, incidents were reported in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which recorded the highest number of traffic accidents after which drivers left the scene. This data comes from the reporting of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GIBDD) for the first five months of 2026, as reported by "Kommersant."

      From January to May, there were 35 accidents in the region where participants fled the scene. Law enforcement managed to locate 32 drivers.

      In this regard, the Nizhny Novgorod region ranked first among Russian regions. Following are the Primorsky Krai, which registered 34 such accidents and found 30 drivers, as well as the Chelyabinsk region with 31 accidents and 27 identified violators.

      In total, across the country during the specified period, there were 697 accidents where drivers fled the scene. Compared to the same period last year, their number increased by 6.7%.

      According to statistics, in such type of accidents since the beginning of the year, 39 people have died, and another 832 have sustained various injuries.

      It should be noted that leaving the scene of an accident is punishable by law with a driving ban for up to one and a half years or administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
