Starting from June 11, fishing restrictions have been lifted on the Oka River and the Cheboksary Reservoir.
As of June 11, restrictions on fishing in the Oka River and the Cheboksary Reservoir with its tributaries have been lifted. This was reported by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. The ban on all types of fishing remains in effect on the Gorky Reservoir (including its tributaries and lakes) until June 15 inclusive. The Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Roman Vorobyov, emphasized: "The introduction of spawning restrictions is a necessary measure to preserve the fish stocks of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. During the spawning period, fish are most vulnerable, and limiting fishing gives them the opportunity to spawn peacefully, which is the key to restoring the population and maintaining a healthy ecosystem in our water bodies." Until the end of the spawning period, amateur fishermen are allowed to fish from the shore outside spawning grounds with one float or bottom rod equipped with two hooks. The daily catch limit is 5 kg. Responsibility for violations: under part 2 of Article 8.37 of the Administrative Offenses Code of the Russian Federation — a fine from 2,000 to 5,000 rubles with confiscation of fishing gear; under Article 256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources) — a fine of up to 500,000 rubles or imprisonment for up to 2 years.
