Nizhny Novgorod motorists have been warned about the danger of poplar fluff.

This was stated by auto expert, head of LEMsolution, Evgeny Ladushkin, in an interview with 360.ru. According to Ladushkin, cottonwood fluff can clog the radiator of the cooling system, intercoolers, as well as the air filter and drainage holes of the windshield. Modern cars, which have a higher thermal load compared to cars from 20 years ago, are particularly vulnerable to the effects of fluff. In an old car with a naturally aspirated engine, overheating can be noticed by the temperature readings on the dashboard, while in modern turbo engines, it manifests less noticeably. The intercooler of the turbo and the radiator of the automatic transmission suffer first. An increase in the intake air temperature in the turbo leads to an increased load on the engine, which reduces its efficiency. A clogged automatic transmission radiator worsens heat dissipation, but an error on the dashboard will only appear when critical temperature values are reached. Furthermore, a clogged drainage does not allow water, flowing from the windshield during rain, to freely drain under the car's body. This leads to stagnation and corrosion of the body. If regular cleaning of radiators and drains is not carried out, it can lead to major engine repairs due to overheating, as well as repairs to the turbo and automatic transmission. Removal of corrosion traces will also be required. Evgeny Ladushkin emphasized that such problems arise only if scheduled cleaning is not performed for more than five years. To avoid such troubles, it is recommended to regularly clean radiators, intercoolers, and drains every two to three years, disassembling and removing components. It is also important to carry out timely maintenance of the car and to change the air filter on time. It is important to note that cottonwood fluff poses a danger not only to cars but also to people. Some people suffer from allergies during the season, but the cause of discomfort lies not in the fluff itself, but in the allergens and insects that it carries.
