In the forests of the Nizhny Novgorod region, more than three thousand recreation areas have been equipped as part of fire safety measures. This was reported by the regional Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife Protection. Increasing the effectiveness of measures to protect forests from fires is one of the main directions of the federal project "Forest Conservation" within the national project "Environmental Well-Being."
“To ensure fire safety in the region's forests, infrastructure for organized recreation is actively being created. Currently, more than 3,000 equipped recreation areas have been established, prepared in compliance with fire safety requirements, including clearing the territory and laying mineralized strips. The comprehensive measures for fire safety in the region have been fully implemented, including the operation of 2,500 barriers, and the installation of 3,800 stands, signs, and indicators containing information on fire safety measures in the forests,” said Roman Vorobyov, Minister of Forestry and Wildlife Protection of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
Fire safety measures are carried out by subordinate institutions of the regional Ministry of Forestry according to the state assignment, and on leased territories by lessees according to approved forest development projects. The Ministry of Forestry noted that as part of the fire safety plan in the region, 1,150 km of mineralized strips have also been arranged and 3,300 km have been cleared, significantly enhancing the barrier protection of forest areas from the spread of fires. Additionally, 8 km of new fire prevention forest roads have been created, and the maintenance of 67 km of existing access roads is underway. Furthermore, the operation of 516 fire water bodies and access to water supply sources has been ensured, guaranteeing the operational availability of water resources for extinguishing fires.
The Ministry of Forestry of the Nizhny Novgorod region reminds that upon discovering a forest fire, it is necessary to immediately report it via the direct line of forest protection: 8 (800) 100-94-00 and the regional dispatch service of the forestry: 8 (831) 430-01-23. Calls are accepted around the clock.
Let us remind you that starting from 2025, a national project "Environmental Well-Being" has been implemented in Russia by order of President Vladimir Putin, which fulfills tasks previously outlined in the national project "Ecology." The new national project aims to care for the environment and improve its comfort for human life. The national project includes six federal projects: "General Cleanup," "Water of Russia," "Conservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecotourism," "Forest Conservation," "Circular Economy," and "Clean Air."
