Price growth has slowed down in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
June 10, 2026 09:59 Economy In April 2026, the annual inflation in the region decreased to 5.39%, which is lower than the national average of 5.58%. In the Volga Federal District, the figure was 6.4%, while in most regions of the district, inflation slowed down. This was reported on the website of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia. Over the month, prices in the Nizhny Novgorod region increased by 0.06%, while nationwide they rose by 0.14%. In April, food prices in the region slightly decreased. The most noticeable price drop was for cucumbers and sweet peppers—producers reduced heating and lighting costs for greenhouses as temperatures warmed. Over the year, cucumbers became cheaper by 15.08%, while peppers increased in price by 3.90%. The cost of olive oil also decreased, dropping by 19.47% over the year. Milk, cottage cheese, cheeses, and butter continued to get cheaper due to increased production in the Volga region. In annual terms, butter decreased in price by 12.77%, drinking milk by 1.88%, cheeses by 0.18%, and cottage cheese by 0.30%. At the same time, sugar in the region became noticeably more expensive than the national average due to a reduction in its production in the district. However, non-food items saw a slight price increase. Computers became more expensive due to rising import costs for components, although they were cheaper by 0.40% over the year. Gasoline prices rose against the backdrop of reduced supply due to repairs at oil refineries; the annual increase was 12.59%. At the same time, smartphones and household appliances became cheaper—this was influenced by the strengthening of the ruble and reduced demand amid high interest rates. Over the year, prices for them decreased by 1.18% and 4.83%, respectively. In the region, television and radio goods also became cheaper more than the national average, while prices for passenger cars and perfumery-cosmetic products decreased over the year, whereas they increased across Russia. The cost of services in April increased slightly, experts note. The most noticeable price rise was for vacations in sanatoriums and boarding houses—up 15.97% over the year due to seasonal demand growth. At the same time, foreign tours became cheaper in April; however, on an annual basis, their price remains 5.92% higher than last year's level. Overall, services increased in price over the year approximately the same as the national average, while medical, household, housing and communal services, and passenger transport rose in price more slowly than the national rates. It was previously reported that in February, inflation in the Nizhny Novgorod region was 5.6%. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
