The contractor embezzled 38 million rubles during the restoration of cultural heritage sites in Arzamas.

      On June 8, 2026, at 13:12, Incidents In Nizhny Novgorod, the investigation into the criminal case of fraud under the pretext of performing work under a contract has been completed. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the investigation, from February to November 2024, a 44-year-old director of a limited liability company, using his official position, embezzled 37,910,508 rubles and 79 kopecks from the customer. The money was allocated for the restoration work on a cultural heritage site of regional significance in Arzamas.

      The investigation established that part of the embezzled funds was spent by the perpetrator on the purchase of several expensive cars, while the remaining amount was used for personal needs. To secure the claim, an arrest was imposed on the property of the accused in the amount of 9,950,000 rubles. The materials of the case with the approved indictment have been sent to the Nizhny Novgorod District Court for consideration on the merits. For committing such a crime, the legislation provides for a punishment of up to 10 years of imprisonment with a substantial fine.
