The XXVII All-Russian Conference of the Association of Children's Hospitals of Russia took place in Nizhny Novgorod.

On June 4-5, 2026, Nizhny Novgorod hosted the leaders of children's hospitals from across the country for the first time. The XXVII All-Russian Conference of the Association of Children's Hospitals of Russia gathered more than 90 chief physicians and leading specialists from 52 regions. The forum was organized by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, the government of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the regional Ministry of Health, the Association of Children's Hospitals of Russia, as well as the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Children's Clinical Hospital (NODKB). At the opening of the conference, Deputy Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Andrey Checherin emphasized that children's medicine remains an unconditional priority within the framework of the governor's project "Foundation," aimed at increasing birth rates and growing the child population. "The All-Russian Conference of the Association of Children's Hospitals of Russia is being held for the first time in Nizhny Novgorod at our flagship institution — the regional children's clinical hospital, which participates in the large-scale project 'Health Quarter.' If the heads of children's hospitals from other regions come here, see our technologies, and hold conferences, it demonstrates the high level that Nizhny Novgorod medical professionals are showing today. Our hospital occupies a leading position on the medical map of Russia. Children with even the most complex diseases can receive the necessary assistance in their home region, without having to travel to Moscow or St. Petersburg," noted Andrey Checherin. The key theme of the business program was the implementation of the national project "Family" and the federal project "Protection of Motherhood and Childhood" included in it. Rafael Shavaliev, Director of the Department of Medical Assistance to Children, Obstetric Services, and Public Health of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, emphasized the tasks of equipping and modernizing children's hospitals, developing intensive care services, and emergency response systems. "Our task is to provide equal opportunities for everyone. Regardless of their place of residence, children should receive quality and safe medical care. The Nizhny Novgorod Regional Children's Hospital is one of the best in the country; it implements unique innovative technologies. We have seen the consolidation of resources, mobile complexes that allow us to reach every remote settlement whose residents cannot travel to the regional center. We hope to scale these approaches to other regions," stated Rafael Shavaliev. The presentation of the "Health Quarter" project, which unites NODKB and the B.A. Korolev Specialized Clinical Cardiac Surgery Hospital into a single territory for providing high-tech assistance, particularly interested the conference participants. Within the framework of this project, 6 out of 14 buildings of the children's hospital have already been renovated, and the opening of a new surgical building with modern operating and intensive care rooms, as well as three additional buildings, is planned for July. The Minister of Health of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Galina Mikhailova, emphasized the importance of experience exchange among leaders in children's healthcare. "It is a great honor for us to host such a serious delegation. Today, leaders in children's healthcare have gathered here, and undoubtedly, there were many common questions, and the exchange of opinions was interesting. We shared our experience and drew colleagues' attention to how we are developing our flagship projects. If you look at what the regional children's clinical hospital was like before and what is happening now, the transformations are very serious and significant for us," noted Galina Mikhailova. During the two-day program, leaders of key medical institutions in the country delivered reports. Nikolai Vaganov, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Children's Hospitals, presented the results of the association's work, chief pediatrician of Moscow Ismail Osmanov spoke about modern trends in the development of pediatrics in the capital's healthcare, and chief physician of the Belgorod Regional Children's Hospital Irina Kizilova shared her experience in organizing medical assistance to children in the context of a special military operation. Participants also discussed HR strategies, modern approaches to the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, and the development of pediatric cardiac surgery in the regions, among other issues.

On the second day of the conference, guests were taken on a tour of the "Health Quarter," the renovated buildings of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, and the Cardiocenter. The organizers emphasized that the main task of the forum is to ensure equal opportunities for receiving quality and accessible medical care for every child, regardless of their place of residence. The solutions developed over the two days will form the basis for further modernization of children's healthcare in all regions of Russia. It should be noted that the protection of motherhood and childhood is one of the components of the new national project "Family." It is being implemented at the direction of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and is a successor to the previously active national projects "Demography" and "Culture." The national project includes activities aimed at the comprehensive development of families: expanding support measures, creating conditions for the active longevity of the older generation, and ensuring quality and accessible medical care.
