"Rostelecom" organized a cyber tournament for patients of the children's hospital in Nizhny Novgorod.
On June 8, 2026, at 16:42, the company "Rostelecom" launched the "Cyber Adaptation" project for children undergoing long-term treatment at the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. The first meeting with the young patients took place on Children's Day. The provider organized a tournament for the board game "Safe Internet" in the hematology and oncology departments of the institution. Twenty children under the age of 16 participated in the competition. The event was held with the support of the "Nizhny Novgorod Oncology Scientific Center" (NONC), which specializes in providing assistance to children with oncological and oncohematological diseases.
The children, divided into teams, answered questions about the rules for creating strong passwords, recognized spam and phishing messages, and solved puzzles related to cybersecurity. For correct answers, the hosts awarded points. All players, as well as other patients in the departments, received gifts from the provider.
Evgeny Petrov, Vice President, Director of the Nizhny Novgorod Branch of PJSC "Rostelecom":
"Rostelecom creates projects that help children use digital services safely. For the patients of the children's hospital, we developed the 'Cyber Adaptation' program so that they can navigate the internet more confidently, recognize common online threats, and protect their data. The material is presented in a game format, making it easier for schoolchildren to learn the rules of information security and apply them in everyday life."
Irina Zhirnova, Executive Director of the NONC:
"For the foundation's wards receiving long-term therapy within the hospital walls, online communication is important. Treatment can last several months. During this time, a child needs to stay connected with family and peers and explore the world with the help of the internet. Modern children are certainly well-oriented in the network, but the competitions showed that they lack knowledge in cybersecurity. The game helped the kids learn the basic rules of digital hygiene in an engaging way."
