Students of NIU proposed their initiatives in the City Duma.
June 3, 2026 14:04 Society Students of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management of the Presidential Academy visited the City Duma. The event was attended by: deputy, chairman of the permanent commission of the City Duma on patriotic education, youth policy, physical culture, and sports Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev, director of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management of the Presidential Academy Ekaterina Lebedeva, head of the City Duma apparatus Elena Andronova and staff of the apparatus, chairman of the Youth Chamber at the City Duma Alexey Filimonov. "You study at the Presidential Academy, you are future managers, and possibly deputies. The most important thing we want to see is initiative. Do not hesitate to propose even what seems unfeasible. I am sure that much can be brought to life," Vladimir Poddymnikov-Gordeev addressed the audience.
The staff of the Duma apparatus detailed the aspects of the deputies' work, the unification of Kstovo and Nizhny Novgorod, the development and approval of a unified Charter and budget, as well as the formation of a unified regulatory legal framework for "Greater Nizhny." Chairman of the Youth Chamber at the City Duma Alexey Filimonov told the students about the work of the Youth Chamber. "Together with first-year students, whom I teach the course 'System of State and Municipal Management', we visited the City Duma of Nizhny Novgorod. We were invited not just for an excursion, but with a specific request: what else can be done to support student families? One of the main priorities of the Presidential Academy is a practice-oriented approach: our students do not just listen to lectures, but can see in practice how the legislative process works and how important decisions for the city are made," noted director of the Nizhny Novgorod Institute of Management of the Presidential Academy Ekaterina Lebedeva.
During the conversation, students presented their initiatives related to measures to support student families such as obtaining housing, employment, providing free public transport rights, compensation for part of the parental fee for childcare in municipal educational organizations, and expanding the services of social nannies and short-term child care. After the discussion, students tried themselves in the role of elected representatives and participated in the voting procedure for each proposed initiative. The students' initiatives were taken up by the Youth Chamber. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
