A Nizhny Novgorod resident was fined for selling goods featuring Cheburashka on a marketplace.

      On June 3, 2026, at 10:04, the Serghach Interdistrict Court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region examined a civil case filed by JSC "Soyuzmultfilm" and LLC "Soyuzmultfilm" against a resident of the region who was selling goods featuring the image of Cheburashka on a marketplace. The reason for the court appeal was the illegal use of a trademark and the image of a character from the animated film "Crocodile Gena." The court established that goods with signs of counterfeiting were indeed being offered for sale on the platform. The rights to the trademark belong to JSC "Soyuzmultfilm," while the right to use the character's image belongs to LLC "Soyuzmultfilm." As the plaintiffs indicated, the defendant did not obtain permission to use the trademark and thus violated their exclusive rights to intellectual property objects granted under the terms of an exclusive license. The companies demanded compensation from the violator in accordance with Article 1301 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation—50,000 rubles in favor of each party. In addition, claims were made for reimbursement of legal expenses, including costs for documenting the violation, amounting to over 13,000 rubles. The court recognized the fact of the violation and satisfied the claims in full.
