The number of child removals in the Nizhny Novgorod region has decreased by 7 times.

      June 2, 2026 17:45 Society 15 children, whose lives and health were in danger, were forcibly taken from their families by the guardianship authorities of the Nizhny Novgorod region last year. In 2024, there were about a hundred such cases. This was reported by the children's rights commissioner in the region, Margarita Ushakova, at a press conference at the Nizhny Novgorod Information Center, which was attended by a correspondent from NIA "Nizhny Novgorod." The children's ombudsman stated that the number of such situations has decreased by 7 times thanks to the "family-preserving approach." The system of social orphanhood, where a child remains alone with living parents, is now being developed from the perspective of helping families in difficult life situations. In other words, the competent authorities do not seek to expedite the processes of depriving parental rights and placing the child in a special institution, but rather strive to preserve the family in the interests of the minor. Margarita Ushakova cited the case of a child born to parents who were not married. His mother led a nomadic lifestyle, and the baby lived with his grandmother and father, who was not listed on his birth certificate. For this reason, the child could not enter school without a statement from a legal representative, and when the situation was revealed, he was taken from the family. To prove paternity, the man needed a considerable amount of time, during which his son lived in an institution.
