Tourism brought 94 billion rubles to the Nizhny Novgorod region.
May 28, 2026 18:43 Society The tourism industry is becoming one of the key drivers of development in the Nizhny Novgorod region. As Governor Gleb Nikitin reported at the meeting of the Legislative Assembly on May 28, compared to 2021, which was a jubilee year for Nizhny Novgorod, the number of guests has increased by 1.5 times. Currently, the region receives about five million people annually, according to data from communication operators.
The total gross added value from the tourism industry is estimated at 94 billion rubles, Gleb Nikitin noted.
The head of the region emphasized that the growth is ensured by systematic work on promoting the region. A rich event agenda is being formed, new routes are being created, and hospitality infrastructure is being developed. By the end of 2025, the Nizhny Novgorod region entered the top three Russian regions-leaders in sustainable tourism development. An additional stimulus for the industry will come from the inclusion of ten settlements in the region into the Golden Ring route. Federal budget support within the framework of the national project "Tourism and Hospitality" also plays a significant role. By 2030, it is planned to build 16 hotels in the region with more than 2,300 rooms. Among the new facilities is a five-star hotel at the sports and wellness complex "Ecopark." It began operations in May and has already welcomed its first guests. In August, the complex plans to open a building with the largest thermal baths in Russia.
A separate direction is the involvement of cultural heritage sites in tourism circulation. For example, in the historical part of Nizhny Novgorod, the areas of the Bashkirov and Degtyarev flour mills are being adapted for a residential complex and a hotel. In Vyksa, the reconstruction of the Hunting Lodge is underway, where a hotel with a sanatorium will be created.
It was previously reported that alcohol will be completely banned in the ecopark area on the Rowing Canal. NIA "Nizhny Novgorod" has channels on Telegram and MAX.
