A resident of Yoshkar-Ola was sentenced for a knife attack on a bus in Nizhny Novgorod.

      On May 29, 2026, at 14:39, Incidents: The Kanavinsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod sentenced 71-year-old resident of Yoshkar-Ola, Rafail Khafizov. He was found guilty of attempted murder out of hooligan motives.

      As established by the court, on the evening of October 5, 2025, the man, in a state of intoxication, boarded bus No. 88 at the "Revolution Square" stop. He had a knife with him, which he had previously hidden in the sleeve of his jacket.

      In the cabin, he approached one of the passengers and without any reason stabbed him in the chest, in the area of the heart. Seeing that the man began to fall, the attacker thought he had inflicted a fatal wound, after which he left the cabin and fled.

      The victim received timely medical assistance, which saved his life.

      The court sentenced Khafizov to 8 years and 1 month of imprisonment to be served in a special regime correctional colony. He was also given a one-year restriction of freedom. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
