May 28, 2026 17:32 Society The summer health campaign in Nizhny Novgorod will start on June 1. On this day, the first to begin work will be the country camp "Forest Tale," reported the head of the city, Yuri Shalabaev. On June 2 and 3, children will be welcomed by "Alexandrovka," "Chayka," "Olympic Hopes," "Mayak," "I Want to Become a Paratrooper," "Green Oaks," and "Sputnik," and already on June 17 and 18 - "Lesnoy" and "Zvezdochka."
"The main theme of this summer will be the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. In each shift, children will be immersed in the rich multinational culture of our country through thematic concerts, literary salons, educational quizzes, and various activities," noted Yuri Shalabaev.
The mayor clarified that the program of each camp has also prepared events dedicated to the Russian movement of children and youth "Movement of the First." In addition, traditional specialized shifts will take place in the camps. For example, "Alexandrovka" will host a natural science shift "EcoRace," "Olympic Hopes" will have a canine shift, and "I Want to Become a Paratrooper" will hold its fourth international shift. Children from Nizhny Novgorod, Sukhumi, Minsk, Gomel, Transnistria, and Luhansk will participate in the latter.
By the order of the head of the city, Yuri Shalabaev, by the start of the season, specialists not only updated the living quarters, dining blocks, and furniture but also repaired and installed new sports grounds, outdoor exercise equipment, and arranged paths and lighting.
In "Forest Tale" in the Kstovo district, preparations for summer are almost complete - staff are conducting inspections at both bases that make up the complex. The year 2026 has become special for the camp, as the "Chayka" base turns 65 years old, and "Tale" turns 60. In honor of the double anniversary, children can expect many festive surprises, including the updated infrastructure of both sites. The director of the institution and leader of the cohesive team, Svetlana Leonova, reported that in "Chayka," they managed to replace the furniture - from modern beds with orthopedic mattresses to new cabinets and nightstands. Meanwhile, "Tale" boasts a universal sports ground with a grandstand. Additionally, heating has been installed in the third and fifth buildings of the second base - it can now be turned on during cool summer nights for the comfort of the children.
"The fourth shift in the camp will be specialized: at the 'Tale' base, it will be 'Shift of the First,' and at the 'Chayka' base, it will be the All-Russian shift 'Summer Physics and Mathematics School' with the support of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Moreover, we have a tent camp on the territory: each squad in each shift must go on a one-day hike," emphasized Svetlana Leonova.
Summer will bring four shifts, each lasting 21 days. "Forest Tale" is preparing to welcome 1,650 children this year, including children with disabilities. The organizer of hot meals, Maria Ilyicheva, shared that every year, staff try to introduce new delicious dishes with interesting names into the menu, as this greatly attracts children. Earlier, Yuri Shalabaev mentioned that a total of ten municipal country camps will host nearly 7,500 children over 41 shifts during the summer season of 2026. For those who prefer to relax in the city, school camps will operate, which are planned to be attended by over 20,500 children in 219 shifts. In particular, the school camp "TechnoStart" will open for the first time at the branch of the Palace named after Chkalov on Composer Kasyanov Street.
