Those who stole 844 laptops from Nizhny Novgorod will stand trial.

On May 26, 2026, at 14:45, incidents occurred. A trial against relatives who stole laptops worth over 96 million rubles began in the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

Recall that a company from Dzerzhinsk reported the disappearance of 844 laptops intended for educational institutions in the Perm region. Law enforcement identified the criminals who planned to steal 107 liquid crystal televisions prepared for shipment to Bataisk in the Rostov region.

The car with the stolen equipment was stopped by the police, and a 21-year-old and a 51-year-old man, who were relatives, were detained. According to the investigation, they found advertisements from companies needing services for transporting expensive cargo on the internet.

After receiving the necessary order, the criminals posed as customers, hired drivers with personal vehicles, and formalized transportation contracts with them. After loading the equipment and receiving accompanying documents, they contacted the driver and dictated a new delivery address—Nizhny Novgorod.

It is known that the stolen laptops were sent to the Stavropol region, where they were sold on a private advertisement platform. A criminal case has been initiated under part 4 of Article 195 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on a particularly large scale).

Nine searches were conducted, and mobile phones, SIM cards, bank cards, flash drives, documents, a television, and SIM card slots were seized from the accused. As part of the investigation, the police managed to discover and seize 137 units of stolen equipment. All devices have been transferred to the lawful owner for safekeeping.

Moreover, it was revealed that the older of the defendants had two Russian Federation passports, one of which was issued by the migration service based on forged documents. Using the same scheme, the man obtained a driver's license with false information. A criminal case has been initiated under part 3 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (acquisition, storage, transportation for the purpose of use or sale, or use of knowingly forged citizen passports, certificates, or other official documents).

The materials of the case with the approved indictment have been sent to the court for substantive consideration. Both men are currently in custody.
