Fake yuan and rubles found in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      May 26, 2026 09:40 Economy In the first quarter of 2026, 24 counterfeit banknotes of rubles and yuan were discovered in the banking sector of the Nizhny Novgorod region. This was reported by the Public Relations and Financial Literacy Department of the Volga-Vyatka Main Directorate of the Bank of Russia. Nineteen Russian banknotes with signs of forgery were identified. The most among them were 1000 ruble notes—nine pieces. Specialists also found six counterfeit banknotes of 5000 rubles, one banknote of 2000 rubles, two of 500 rubles, and one of 100 rubles. Additionally, five counterfeit banknotes of 100 Chinese yuan were identified in the region. The bank reminded about the importance of checking cash upon receipt—at least three security features. These can be elements that are determined by light transmission, touch, or by tilting or turning the banknote.
