Belarus and Russia have agreed to develop 40 standards for machine tool engineering.

May 25, 2026 17:48 Society Belarus and Russia intend to jointly develop 40 new standards in the field of machine engineering. This issue was discussed during a meeting between the chairwoman of the State Committee for Standardization Elena Morgunova and the head of the Nizhny Novgorod region representation in Belarus Andrey Dudkin, reports belta.by. As Andrey Dudkin noted, standardization issues are key to the development of trade and economic cooperation between enterprises of the two countries.

"The issue of standardization from both Russian and Belarusian enterprises is crucial for the development of trade and economic ties. This primarily concerns the development of unified requirements and the recognition of conformity assessment documents. The goal of our meeting is to clarify this mechanism to assist our enterprises and breathe new life into the development of trade and economic relations," he stated.

Elena Morgunova, for her part, emphasized the high level of interaction between Belarus and Russia in the field of technical regulation. According to her, cooperation between the State Standard and Rosstandart is constantly expanding through new projects and directions. She reported that five standardization plans of the Union State are currently being implemented. They concern baby food, energy saving and increasing energy efficiency, trucks and electric buses, as well as machine engineering.

"The documents provide for the development of new union standards, the unified requirements of which are important for trade, cooperation, and protecting consumer interests," Morgunova noted.

As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to pay special attention to standardization in the machine engineering sector with the participation of relevant government bodies from both countries. The adopted plan provides for the development of 40 new standards for various types of machines and equipment. Meeting participants emphasized that this is necessary both for forming unified requirements and for expanding cooperation between manufacturers in Russia and Belarus.

During the discussion, issues of confirming the conformity of products during mutual supplies were also addressed. It was noted that businesses periodically face difficulties in this area. To increase entrepreneurs' awareness, the parties agreed to hold a joint seminar with the participation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Nizhny Novgorod region and the educational center "Quality Academy" BelGISS. The representation of the Nizhny Novgorod region in Belarus will soon prepare a list of questions relevant to regional businesses. One of the priority topics identified is the electrical engineering sector.

In addition, meeting participants discussed standardization issues in the light industry, including the production of school uniforms, promoting Belarusian products in the Russian market, and increasing the efficiency of joint projects. The parties also emphasized the importance of creating a Committee for Standardization and Quality of the Union State. The first meeting of the new structure is scheduled to take place on June 25 in Molodechno as part of the XIII Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia.

In conclusion, Elena Morgunova invited the delegation of the Nizhny Novgorod region representation to visit the State Standard institutes to familiarize themselves with their capabilities and explore new areas of cooperation.
