A Nizhny Novgorod design engineer was sentenced to 20 years for treason and escape.

      On May 21, 2026, at 18:45, a 35-year-old design engineer from Kstovo, Mikhail Guryanov, was found guilty of financing terrorism, participating in the activities of a terrorist organization, treason, and escaping from custody. This was reported by the press service of the 2nd Western District Military Court.

      It was established that from March 2022 to March 2024, the man transferred money to the accounts of the Interregional Public Movement "Artpodgotovka," supporting the organization and its members. The total amount of donations was 7,800 rubles.

      To join "Artpodgotovka," in April 2023, the Nizhny Novgorod resident found a Telegram channel with instructions on obtaining an electronic ticket, submitted an application, and became a participant in the movement. From that moment until February 2025, Mikhail Guryanov acted as an administrator of an open Telegram channel, where messages were disseminated that "destabilized the socio-political situation in Russia."

      Opposing the Special Military Operation, from March 2024 to January 2025, the man contacted a representative of the Ukrainian special services and received an assignment to gather information about the facilities of LLC "Sibur-Kstovo." The defendant prepared data on the structural features of the enterprise, its individual infrastructure facilities and structures, and the subscriber numbers of dispatchers.

      On February 24 of last year, a criminal case was initiated against the design engineer. On the same day, Mikhail Guryanov complained of feeling unwell and was taken to the city clinical hospital, from where he escaped. Three days later, he was located and arrested.

      The man was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with the first five years to be served in prison and the remainder in a strict regime correctional colony. In addition, the court imposed a one-year restriction of freedom, a fine of 400,000 rubles, and confiscation of 7,800 rubles to the property of the Russian Federation.
