On May 23, the XXII All-Russian Festival of Folklore and Ethnographic Collectives "Green Holidays" will take place in Gorodets, Nizhny Novgorod region. This year, it is included in the list of events dedicated to the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture of the Nizhny Novgorod region.
According to tradition, the festival takes place during the period associated with the celebration of the Orthodox Trinity. Green Holidays is a special period that lasts for two weeks before this holiday. Among the organizers are the Regional Department of Cultural and Educational Projects and the administration of the Gorodets Municipal District. This year, the festival is held with the support of the "Creative Practices Team."
This festival will also be interesting for guests of the region, including in the format of road trips, which are developing in the Nizhny Novgorod region thanks to the national project "Tourism and Hospitality."
At 11:00, the celebration will begin with a solemn procession of creative collectives through the Museum Quarter of Gorodets in national traditional costumes. The procession will go from the estate of Avdotya Lapshina (Gorodets, Naberezhnaya Revolyutsii St., 5) to the "City of Masters" (Yuri Dolgoruky Naberezhnaya St., 1). At 11:30, a general mass round dance will take place in front of the "City of Masters," and at 11:45, the solemn award ceremony will begin on stage. At 12:00, there will be a gala concert of the participants of the "Green Holidays" festival. In addition, from 11:00 to 14:30, there will be an exhibition of decorative and applied arts.
24 folklore collectives from Bolshoye Boldino, Buturlino, Gorodets, Dzerzhinsk, Navashino, Sharanga, Chkalovsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Vyksa, Spasskoye, Sarov, as well as from Chuvashia, Mordovia, and Mari El will participate in the festival. Among the performers are the folklore ensemble "Golden Patterns" from the Culture House of the village of Chernukha, the folklore ensemble "Sumoryanochka" from the Sumoryevsky Rural Culture House of the Voznesensky District, the Udmurt folk folklore ensemble "Zardon" from the Mari-Turek District of the Republic of Mari El, as well as the folklore ensemble "Prialitsa" from the Children's School of Arts named after F.I. Shalyapin in the municipal district of Bor.
In addition, more than 40 masters of decorative and applied arts from the Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir regions, as well as from the Republic of Mordovia, the Republic of Chuvashia, and the Republic of Mari El will participate in the festival.
In total, in 2026, 84 applications were received from 33 municipal and urban districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region and other regions for the XXII All-Russian Festival of Folklore and Ethnographic Collectives "Green Holidays."
It is worth noting that throughout the history of the "Green Holidays" festival, folklore and ethnographic collectives from thirty regions of Russia (about 10,500 participants) have participated.
Recall that the national project "Tourism and Hospitality" is being implemented on the initiative of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and provides for the solution of tasks that were previously included in the national project "Tourism and the Hospitality Industry." It involves the development of infrastructure, production of equipment, training of personnel for the tourism sector, promotion of travel across Russia, as well as ensuring quality service and safe, comfortable trips.
