A Nizhny Novgorod teenager will be sentenced to 8 years for the murder of a passerby over a cigarette.

      On May 19, 2026, at 17:26, Incidents: The Avtozavodsky District Court of Nizhny Novgorod sentenced a 15-year-old teenager accused of murdering a man with particular cruelty out of hooligan motives. The young man was sentenced to 8 years and 6 months of imprisonment to be served in a juvenile correctional facility.

      The crime was committed on July 19, 2025. According to the investigation, the teenager, along with a girlfriend who had not reached the age of criminal responsibility, asked a man for cigarettes on the street. After being refused, they beat him, delivering numerous blows to his head and body. The man died on the spot from the injuries sustained.

      The young man was found guilty under paragraphs "d" and "i" of part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - murder committed with particular cruelty and out of hooligan motives.

      Additionally, the court partially satisfied the civil claim of the victim's side. The convicted was ordered to pay 158,000 rubles as compensation for material damage and 2 million rubles for moral harm.
