Nizhny Novgorod Region and Brazil will develop partnership in business and sports.
On May 16, 2026, at 17:21, the economy section reported that on May 15, a delegation from the Brazil-Russia Business Council, led by Vice President Devenire Cavalcante de Lima, visited the Nizhny Novgorod region. According to the press service of the regional government, the purpose of the visit was to discuss the expansion of bilateral cooperation in trade, industry, culture, and sports.
The meeting addressed strengthening business ties, developing joint projects, and enhancing humanitarian contacts. Representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod regional government noted the region's interest in deepening cooperation and the potential for exporting Russian products.
Currently, the issue of opening a House of Brazil in our region is being worked on, and there is also a discussion about the interest of Brazilian companies in the Russian chemical industry.
The parties also discussed the prospects for cooperation with the Sambo Federation of the Nizhny Novgorod region. In particular, they plan to hold international match meetings in sports and combat sambo in 2028, when the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Brazil and the 90th anniversary of sambo will be celebrated.
Devenire Cavalcante de Lima, for his part, expressed positive impressions from the meeting and emphasized the importance of joint initiatives. He noted that preparations for 2028 include discussions on sports projects that could attract the attention of the global community and strengthen ties between the countries.
In conclusion, the Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Olga Guseva, highlighted the importance of developing intermunicipal cooperation. For instance, the Gorodetsky district is already cooperating with the municipality of Trindade, while the Voskresensky district is working with the city of Campina das Missões. In the future, it is planned to establish sister city relations between Dzerzhinsk and Jundiaí, as well as to develop partnerships with three Brazilian states: Bahia, São Paulo, and Rio Grande do Sul.
