The team from the Nizhny Novgorod region made it into the top ten at the Knowledge Tournament final. Game

      On May 16, 2026, at 11:00, the final of the all-Russian intellectual tournament Knowledge took place in Moscow, at the National Center "Russia". The game is one of the key educational projects of the Russian Society "Knowledge". A total of 355 erudites from 71 teams, including from the Republic of Abkhazia, competed for victory. The team "Ni.Grek", representing Lyceum No. 165 named after the 65th anniversary of "Gaz" from Nizhny Novgorod, was among the prize winners of the tournament based on the results of the final game. They, along with 9 other teams, received gifts from partners, including trips across Russia. The tournament is implemented as part of the national project "Youth and Children".

      The final game turned out to be a real intellectual marathon lasting over two hours: in 8 rounds, the participants tackled more than 40 questions, every sixth of which was in the format "What? Where? When?". They answered challenges from science and technology, literature and art, politics and economics; proved their knowledge of the history of Russia, its peoples, and their customs; and recalled great compatriots—from physiologist Pavlov to commander Suvorov.

      "The final of the Knowledge tournament is always a significant event. Today, 355 of the best young erudites gathered at the National Center 'Russia', having become the best among 90,000 schoolchildren and college students. The competition for one place was 253 people—this is serious competition! The tournament united teams from large cities and from very small settlements, but behind each is a long journey during which you gained knowledge and learned to work in a team, defend your position, and have the courage to concede when another is right. I wish you never to stop at what you have achieved and to maintain your curiosity. Remember: there are no losers in this hall. There are only those who have become smarter and stronger in spirit, who have gained friends and mentors, who have gotten the most out of honest intellectual competition. I sincerely congratulate you!" noted Maxim Dreval, General Director of the Russian Society "Knowledge".

      As a result of the competition, the absolute winner of the tournament and 9 prize winners were determined. The awards were presented by the state secretary—deputy head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Denis Ashirov.

      The team "Ni.Grek" from the Nizhny Novgorod region scored the same number of points as the team "Plus Minus" (Orenburg College of Economics and Informatics, Orenburg region), sharing 4th and 5th places. For the participants, this is not their first face-to-face final in Moscow. Being a long-established team, they have attended many intellectual competitions, including the final of the Knowledge tournament. The game in the sports format "What? Where? When?" in 2025. Reflecting on what they would tell themselves at the beginning of their journey in intellectual games, the young erudites respond: "Dare, do everything in your power, do not stop, and do not give up on what you want."

      The team's mentor, Mikhail Kulemin, emphasizes that a full-fledged movement of intellectual games has been formed at the lyceum: there is a separate club through which many generations have passed over the past 10 years. Today, teams successfully compete at both regional and all-Russian levels. All this is part of the targeted work with talents being carried out at Lyceum No. 165 and in the Nizhny Novgorod region as a whole. "The guys from the 'Ni.Grek' team are Olympians in various subjects: mathematics, computer science, social studies, and history. They are very versatile, and this quality is essential for winning intellectual competitions."

      For 2026, the team has ambitious plans: in June, they will return to Moscow, this time for the final of the Knowledge tournament. The game in the sports format "What? Where? When?". In the future, they do not plan to stop and hope that next year they will manage to become the winners of one of the largest intellectual competitions in the country.

      The absolute winner of the tournament was the team "Heirs of Kant" (Secondary School of Bagrationovsk, Gymnasium No. 40 named after Yu.A. Gagarin, Kaliningrad region). The prize winners of the tournament also included: the team "Nemo" (Secondary School No. 144, Krasnoyarsk Krai), the team "Cat in a Box" (Polytechnic Lyceum-Boarding School, Republic of Mari El), the team "Pallada" (Secondary School No. 79 of Penza, Penza region), the team "Russian World" (Educational Center No. 15 "Height" named after Hero of the Soviet Union M.P. Devyataev, Republic of Mordovia), the team "By the Way, Yes!" (Kommunarskaya Secondary School No. 1, Leningrad region), the team "Gorynych" (Secondary School No. 129 of the Soviet District of Volgograd, Volgograd region), the team "Kubanoids" (Secondary School No. 1 named after V.N. Berezutskiy, p. Mostovskoy, Krasnodar Krai).

      Winners and prize winners received gifts from the tournament partners: trips across Russia from the ANO "More than a Journey" and certificates for training from the educational holding Skillbox—AI lessons in English and courses in other useful skills.

      The Knowledge tournament is included in the list of events recommended annually by the Ministry of Education of Russia for implementation within the framework of the calendar plan for educational work. In addition to the quiz direction, the tournament for the sports format "What? Where? When?" continues in the 2025-2026 season under the license of the rights holder LLC "Television Company 'Igra-TV'". Teams are invited to participate in two age categories: schoolchildren and students of secondary vocational education (14-18 years) and university students and working youth (18-25 years).
