The poverty level in the Nizhny Novgorod region has reached its lowest point in 12 years.

      May 15, 2026 17:14 Economy The number of residents in the Nizhny Novgorod region with incomes below the poverty line decreased to 5.2% in 2025. This level is the lowest in the last 12 years. This is evidenced by data from Nizhny Novgorod Statistics. Just in 2024, this figure was 5.6%, and in 2023 it was 7.2%. The decline in the poverty level has been recorded by specialists since 2017, when it was 10% - the highest in the history of observations, which have been conducted since 2013. Furthermore, last year the deficit of monetary income - the amount that the low-income population lacks to reach the subsistence minimum - decreased to 0.3% of the total income of the population. In 2024 and 2023, this figure was 0.4% and 0.6%, respectively. The highest values of the deficit were noted in 2020 and 2017. It is worth noting that the data for last year is still preliminary and is based on sample surveys of households and on the macroeconomic indicator of average per capita monetary income.
