Three encephalitis ticks were found in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

      May 14, 2026 09:51 Society Since the start of the tick season in the Nizhny Novgorod region, 887 people have sought medical attention for bites, including 266 children. Half of all inquiries occurred in the last week. This was reported by the press service of the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor. At the same time, the total number of victims in 2026 is twice as low as the average long-term level. Cases have been recorded in 47 municipalities and eight districts of Nizhny Novgorod. According to specialists, 38% of bites occurred in residential areas, 30% in garden and vegetable plots, 15% in parks and squares, and 14% in the forest. Cases of tick attachment have also been noted outside the region. One case of tick-borne borreliosis has been registered in a 38-year-old resident of Nizhny Novgorod. The man was infected after a bite in the Bor district. The diagnosis has been confirmed in the laboratory. Laboratories have examined 1,314 ticks, of which 1,147 were removed from people. Pathogens of infections were found in 228 samples — this is 17.3% of the total number. Three ticks infected with the tick-borne encephalitis virus have been identified — in Shakhunya and the Sharanga district. In addition, 184 ticks were found to be infected with borrelia, five with ehrlichia, and 39 with anaplasma. Emergency prophylaxis with immunoglobulin was administered to 170 people, including 164 children. Vaccinations against tick-borne viral encephalitis were given to 8,789 residents of the region, among them 983 children.
